o, here we are in the year 2025 and I've finally created a website for my personal images. What's that saying about the cobbler's shoes? If you read through this, GOOD FOR YOU. It's maybe more of a biography - or an epitaph of sorts - as I don't really create images nearly at the level of historical evidence.

Gonna start at the end... or the beginning in reality. In 1984 I founded the design and marketing firm Applied Concepts. We enjoyed a very successful 27 years with clients like divisions of DuPont, Williamson-Dickie, Bristol Meyers Squib and several other industry leaders in business-to-business. I've included a few of my favorite designs and examples of my production skills. They were pretty sharp back then. Not so much now. Although extremely exciting in the beginning, I realized I wasn't creating any art for myself that wasn't subject to corporate approval. Thus...
Afterthoughts
Winged Souls and Thoughts
My background was in watercolor painting for gallery shows and technical illustration - go figure. I was spending hours and hours art directing photography with some of the most talented photographers around for my business. I had lost the desire to paint because I was living a life in front of computers and in photo studios, as well as teaching Photoshop at UCSB extension in Ventura. My new "tool" had to be photography. But I had to do it myself. So, I became the biggest pest as an art director, and was relentless about "squeezing" the photographers I hired for tutelage. Started my journey being a photographer that could get "close enough" for my creative images.
Although these images have spent some time “developing” in Photoshop, they hold true to the premise that specific laws of light, perspective and perception must be observed to create a believable visual experience.
The goal has always been to elicit the response "cool image!", instead of ... "oh, that was done in Photoshop".
Wandering Heart
I've taken the opportunity to talk a bit about this project at the beginning of that section. I'm in the process of recreating two of my favorite "test images" that will appear in that section shortly. Standby...
Superbloom
Which brings us to Superbloom. This was something that just got to me. I was inspired by the beauty of this phenomenon. I did some real quick research to "guess" where to go for the best chances of successfully capturing some of this beauty. This - as it turns out - is just taking a chance. Carrizo Plain was truly the best choice. It really was just me and my Nikon. I have two favorites lenses that helped my eye realize the beauty I was fortunate enough to witness. I used my entire creative time as a study of field of focus. Even though this was nothing that I have done creatively in the past, it was fun and - I believe - worth sharing.
